UCAS Students Do Well in Interpreting Contest

On October 17, 2012, the fourth Cross-strait Interpreting Contest (China's Mainland) of North China District was successfully held in Beijing Forestry University. Four MTI majors from the Department of Foreign Languages of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences took part , among which Li Mengwei, Yang Xiao and Xu Ke won second prize and Cui Min won third prize.
About 70 contestants from Beijing, Tianjin, Heibei, Shanxi and Inner Mongolia participated. The competition adopted a "Knock-Out" system and consisted of three rounds: theme interpretation, dialogue interpretation and conference interpretation. After the fierce competition in the morning, 21 contestants entered the second round. Li Mengwei, Yang Xiao and Xu Ke did very well  and Li Mengwei entered the third round to contend for the first prize. During the whole process, Yang Yang and Sun Libing, teachers from Department of Foreign Languages of UCAS , accompanied the contestants and encouraged them.
After this competition our contestants said the prize was not what matters most, but the experience. On one hand, they have become more courageous afterwards, and on the other hand, they can draw on merits from other contestants. The experience is a treasure for them and they look forward to the competition next year.
